Yesterday I went into town and saw... well, lots of stuff. Lessee, there was the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, Arlington Cemetary, the Marines Memorial for Iwo Jima, and one or two others. My mind is a bit fuzzy right now, thanks to the heat, so I can't quite recall at the moment. I'm told that it hit 104 F yesterday, which is a record here for the month of June.

Last night a major, major storm blew through at around 10 or 11 PM. Knocked the power out all over, including at my motel. So I slept last night in an un-airconditioned, muggy, dark room. Not especially fun. And the power is still out, there, which is why I'm writing this from the lobby of a different hotel. I don't have a room here, but they're graciously allowing me to sit here with my laptop and use their seat and their internet connection. And their air conditioning. Thank you, Holiday Inn Express.

Today is... well, I had planned to stay in my hotel room for most of the day, soaking up TV and internet and AC while my feet healed, and then going into DC proper in the evening to take pics of the monuments I still haven't seen (and want to see, of course). But between everything, I'm just feeling blah. I want to just relaaaaax, preferably by a pool. I'm not sure I'm going to see those last half-dozen monuments. I may just sit here on the computer all day.

I just wish I'd vacation-crashed a day later. I wouldn't mind it as much, since I have to spend a good part of the afternoon in the airport anyway. But today is just kind of wasted. Maybe if the power hadn't gone out, I would have felt energetic enough to go toodling around town, but as it is, the day is kind of wasted. Which means my car rental was also wasted. Dammit.

Oh well. Home tomorrow. I can't wait to take a real rest, after this vacation!
